E’Twaun Moore made sure Purdue finished 2010 on a positive note.

Moore scored 31 points, including seven 3-pointers, as the Boilermakers improved to 2-0 in the Big Ten with an 82-69 win Friday at Mackey Arena in West Lafayette, Ind.

Moore, who also had seven rebounds and three assists, was one of three Purdue players in double figures. JaJuan Johnson missed a double-double with 19 points and nine rebounds, and Ryne Smith added 13 points.

Purdue (13-1 overall, 2-0 Big Ten) struggled early with the Wildcats. After tying the score at 10-10 with 16:35 to go in the first half, Purdue pulled ahead slightly.

Northwestern (9-2, 0-1) stayed with the Boilermakers, slicing its deficit to 33-30 with 5:08 in the half, but Purdue went on a 9-0 run at that point and Northwestern never caught up.

Purdue finished the game 25-of-54 (46.3 percent) from the field, with Northwestern (26-of-57, 45.6 percent) not far behind. The difference in the game was free throws. Purdue was 23-of-33 (69.7 percent) from the stripe, and Northwestern was only 9-of-16 (56.3 percent).

Michael Thompson led Northwestern with 18 points. Luka Mirkovic added 16 points.
