Chris Wright snapped out of a funk to lead No. 14 Georgetown to a hard-fought 62-59 home victory over No. 13 Louisville on Monday.

Wright, the Hoyas’ senior point guard, didn’t score in Saturday’s win over Villanova but bounced back to pour in 22 points to lead Georgetown to its fifth straight win. But it wasn’t easy.

Georgetown (17-5, 6-4 Big East) led, 22-18, after a sloppy first half. The Hoyas ratcheted up the defense and went on a 9-0 run early in the second half capped by Austin Freeman’s 3-pointer that opened an 11-point lead at the 14-minute mark.

The Cardinals (17-5, 6-3 Big East) used some pressure defense of their own to speed up the game. Louisville capitalized on a flurry of turnovers and took a 54-53 lead on Mike Marra’s 3-pointer with six minutes left.

The Hoyas got a clutch 3-pointer from Hollis Thompson with two minutes to play that snapped a tie.

Jason Clark and Wright made four consecutive free throws in the final 30 seconds, and Louisville’s Peyton Siva missed a desperation 3-pointer at the buzzer.

The Hoyas won despite committing 16 turnovers and surrendering 11 offensive rebounds.

Reserve Terrence Jennings scored 18 points and Preston Knowles added 11 for the Cardinals.
