Chase Tapley scored a game-high 25 points and host San Diego State defeated No. 23 California 64-63 for its ninth straight win over a Pac-12 opponent.

Jamaal Franklin and Garrett Green grabbed a combined 19 rebounds for San Diego State (8-2), which led by no more than three points for most of the second half.

Playing its second straight game without suspended forward Richard Solomon, California (6-2) started four guards and was outrebounded for the first time in eight games, 35-32.

California’s Allen Crabbe had 23 points and nine rebounds, including a 3-pointer with 2.1 seconds left. Justin Cobbs added 17 points and five assists.

After the Aztecs closed the first half with an 8-0 run to lead 33-25, California tied the game at 42 with 14 minutes remaining.

San Diego State, which had its 27-game non-conference home winning streak snapped by No. 22 Creighton on Wednesday, improved to 3-0 against Pac-12 foes this season.
