Cleveland Melvin collected 30 points and eight rebounds and Brandon Young added 21 points and six assists as DePaul held off visiting Chicago State, 102-95, on Saturday.

Jeremiah Kelly chipped in 19 points, five rebounds and four assists for the Blue Demons (6-3), who have won two straight to bounce back from a pair of losses.

DePaul seemed content to just out-run the Cougars (0-9), who came into the contest averaging 56.9 points on 38.6 percent shooting with an average margin of loss of 27.4 points.

The Blue Demons led by as much as 36-19 midway through the first half but let Chicago State back into the game when Young was called for personal and technical fouls late in the half. The Cougars ended up closing to within 51-47 at the break.

DePaul threatened to run away several times in the second half, leading by as many as 14 points on two occasions. The Blue Demons kept letting the Cougars back into the game by getting outworked on the glass (44-36) and allowing the them to shoot 51 percent from the floor.

Matt Samuels scored 20 points to lead Chicago State.
