Darnell Dodson and Maurice Bolden each recorded double-doubles and Southern Mississippi took advantage of visiting South Florida’s cold shooting from 3-point range for a 53-51 victory on Thursday.

Dodson, who had 12 points and 12 rebounds, contributed five points in an 8-1 run after South Florida had tied the game 35-35 with 10:07 remaining. Bolden had 11 points and10 rebounds for the Golden Eagles (10-2), who have won six straight.

South Florida (7-6), which made 1-of-15 from behind the 3-point arc, pulled within 52-51 with 0:06 left. Augustus Gilchrist missed a shot in the final seconds that would have tied it.

Gilchrist scored 11points and became the 18th player to reach 1,000 career points in the program’s history. Ron Anderson Jr. led the Bulls, winless in six away from home, with 12 points.

Southern Mississippi led by as many as 11 points in the first half, but settled for a 25-19 advantage at halftime. Bolden scored the first seven points of the game and finished with nine in the opening 20 minutes to lead the Golden Eagles.

Hugh Robertson had six points to lead South Florida in the first half and 10 for the game.
