No. 22 San Diego State woke up after a sluggish 22 minutes and ran away from winless Chicago State, 73-65.

The host Azetcs (14-2) won their 55th straight against unranked opponents.

Chicago State (0-16) scored the first seven points of the second half to shockingly lead 39-32, forcing the Aztecs to call time. They responded with a 27-6 run sparked by junior guard Chase Tapley, who finished with a game-high 24 points.

Tapley made 3 of 8 3-pointers and has hit at least two treys in 10 straight games. Jamaal Franklin added 16 points and 10 rebounds for San Diego State, which reached the Sweet 16 last season.

The Cougars held the Aztecs to 37.9 percent shooting in the first half and went to the lockeroom tied. But they could not sustain it against a high-powered attack.

Guard Matt Samuels led Chicago State with 17 points, and forward Jeremy Robinson added 14 points and seven rebounds.
