Scott Wood scored a game-high 21 points and set a new ACC record for consecutive free throws made as visiting North Carolina State held off a late rally by Miami for a 78-73 victory.

DeShawn Painter added 18 points for N.C. State (15-5, 4-1 ACC), which has won nine of 10. The Wolfpack tied Duke and Florida State atop the ACC standings.

Wood made all seven free throws Sunday and has drained 58 straight dating to last season, passing Duke’s J.J. Redick (54 in 2003-04). C.J. Leslie added 11 points and C.J. Williams, who wasn’t expected to play with a shoulder injury, added 10 for the Wolfpack.

Kenny Kadji had 20 points and 10 rebounds to lead Miami (10-7, 1-3 ACC), which cut a 14-point deficit to four with 1:48 remaining. But the Hurricanes, who made just 2 of 20 from 3-point range, got no closer.

N.C. State trailed by as many as five early, but took control with a 23-6 run. Painter and Leslie had 11 first-half points each as the Wolfpack settled for a 39-27 halftime lead.

Miami turned the ball over nine times and registered just one assist in the first half. Leading scorer Malcolm Grant was 0 for 7 from the field in the game.
