Jack Cooley recorded 13 points and 11 rebounds for his sixth double-double of the season and Notre Dame used a smothering defensive effort to earn a 55-42 victory over host Seton Hall on Wednesday.

The Fighting Irish (13-8, 5-3 Big East) opened the second half with a 10-1 run, capped by back-to-back 3-pointers from Alex Dragicevich and Jerian Grant, to open up a 29-19 lead.

The Pirates (15-5, 4-4) missed their first five shots of the period after a dreadful 6-for-29 performance in the first 20 minutes.

The rims were not kind to either team - Notre Dame shot 35.1 percent from the field - but Seton Hall had a particularly rough go of it, finishing at 26.3 percent (14 for 54) overall and 2 for 14 from 3-point range.

Grant led the Fighting Irish with 15 points, going 10 for 12 from the free throw line after a 0-for-2 start.

Jordan Theodore scored 11 points while top scorer Herb Pope was held to five points on 2-for-16 shooting for Seton Hall.
