D’Angelo Harrison hit a career-high seven 3-pointers and scored 29 points to help St. John’s outrun host DePaul 87-81 on Wednesday.

St. John’s (10-12, 4-6 Big East) trailed most of the game as leading scorer and reigning Big East Freshman of the Week Moe Harkless went only 2 of 15 against the conference’s worst scoring defense. Harrison’s hot shooting, though, helped spark a 13-0 run midway through the second half that put the Red Storm ahead 64-59 with 8:27 left.

It was only the second road win in 10 tries for the Johnnies, who carry a renewed confidence into a favorable schedule. St. John’s, which starts five freshmen, sits in the middle of the Big East standings and still has five games against teams with losing records in conference.

DePaul (11-10, 2-7 Big East), meanwhile, lost for the sixth time in seven games and has failed to carry the momentum gained in the non-conference season into a bruising Big East schedule.

Cleveland Melvin scored a team-high 22 points but the young Blue Demons struggled to get back defensively when the Johnnies pushed tempo in the second half. They allowed St. John’s, which entered the game ranked 14th out of 16 Big East teams in field goal percentage, to shoot 73.3 percent after the break.
