No. 12 North Carolina 80, Florida Atlantic 56: James Michael McAdoo had 19 points and 11 rebounds for his second consecutive double-double as the Tar Heels ran away from the Owls in the first round of the EA Sports Maui Invitational.

McAdoo followed up a career-best 26-point, 14-rebound performance in the opener against Gardner-Webb with another gem for North Carolina (2-0). Reggie Bullock (16 points), Brice Johnson (12) and Joel James (11) also had big games for the Tar Heels.

Greg Gantt led Florida Atlantic with 18 points but the Owls (0-1) – who shot 17-of-61 for the game – only trailed by eight at halftime despite the poor effort from the field. In the second half, however, the Tar Heels steadily pulled away.

For the second consecutive game, North Carolina was less than perfect in a win, turning the ball over 17 times against Florida Atlantic after 18 committing turnovers against Gardner-Webb.

Jordan McCoy finished with a team-high 10 rebounds for Florida Atlantic, which was outrebounded 49-34.

GAME NOTEBOOK: North Carolina improved to 2-0 all-time against FAU, winning those meetings by a combined 77 points... The Owls, who also committed 17 turnovers, averaged just 11.75 turnovers over the last two seasons... Freshman point guard Marcus Paige, who is attempting to replace the big shoes of Kendall Marshall, didn't have a single assist in his debut but managed seven helpers against the Owls.
