No. 16 Memphis 81, North Florida 66: Tarik Black recorded 18 points and seven rebounds as the host Tigers pulled away midway through the first half to win their season opener.

Joe Jackson chipped in with 14 points and Antonio Barton added 11 for Memphis, which committed only nine turnovers and outrebounded North Florida 45-30.

North Florida (1-1) held an 18-17 lead with 11 minutes left in the first half before Barton scored 10 points during the 19-0 run that gave Memphis control. Barton had all of his points and Black poured in 10 as the Tigers built a 47-25 lead at halftime.

The Ospreys made only 7-of-26 from the field in the first half and turned the ball over 11 times. Memphis outrebounded North Florida 29-14 in the opening 20 minutes.

Jerron Granberry scored 17 points and Parker Smith had 12 for North Florida, which made 11 of its 22 field goals from beyond the arc.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Jackson added six assists and six rebounds for Memphis. … Junior college transfer Geron Johnson is suspended for the first three games by the NCAA for receiving extra benefits before enrolling at Memphis. … North Florida is 0-13 against ranked teams since going Division I in 2005-06.
