Freshman Brandon Ashley had 20 points and 10 rebounds in his first career start and Kevin Parrom scored 15 points on five 3-pointers as the Wildcats routed the visiting 49ers.

Solomon Hill also scored 15 points and Nick Johnson added 12 as Arizona improved to 3-0.

James Ennis scored 17 points, Peter Pappageorge added 16 and Kris Gulley tallied 12 for Long Beach State (1-3).

Long Beach State was down 13 four-plus minutes into the second half when Arizona scored eight straight in a span of 59 seconds to take a 67-46 lead with 14:20 remaining. Ashley scored on a layup, Parrom drained a 3-pointer and Hill scored on a three-point play. The Wildcats’ lead reached 30 on Ashley’s jumper with 6:41 left.

Arizona shot 63 percent from the field in the first half en route to a 50-37 halftime lead. The Wildcats opened up a 21-point lead with an 18-3 run capped by Ashley’s dunk with 7:10 to play.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Hill has 1,001 career points to become the 47th player in Arizona history to reach the milestone. … The 49ers were 14-for-32 from 3-point range with Paggageorge hitting four. … The Wildcats had a 37-20 rebounding edge.
