VCU 78, No. 17 Memphis 65: Sophomore Treveon Graham scored a career-high 26 points to send the Rams to an upset victory over the Tigers in the first round of the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament in the Bahamas.

Rob Brandenberg made all five of his 3-point attempts en route to 15 points for VCU (3-1), which shot 13-for-22 from behind the arc and will face No. 5 Duke in Friday's semifinals.

VCU’s unrelenting full-court pressure forced seven turnovers over the first 5:37 of the contest as the Rams raced out to a 12-4 lead. VCU stretched that advantage to as many as 16 points on a 3-pointer by Brandenberg at the 6:17 mark of the first half.

Even after leading scorer Joe Jackson fouled out with 6:40 remaining, Memphis (2-1) managed to chop the Rams’ 14-point halftime lead down to two on a jumper from Tarik Black with 4:06 left. But a layup from Graham and two 3-pointers from Brandenberg keyed a game-turning 12-0 run to put it away.

Adonis Thomas finished with 19 points and seven rebounds for the Tigers, who will meet Minnesota in the consolation round Friday.

GAME NOTEBOOK: VCU scored 20 points off eight steals and 13 total first-half turnovers by Memphis, which committed 22 miscues against the Rams after recording 15 over its first two games. … Jackson committed a career-high seven turnovers before fouling out for only the second time as a Tiger. … VCU held its ninth straight opponent to 65 or less points and has won 21 of its last 24 games.
