No. 22 Illinois 75, Georgia Tech 62: Joseph Bertrand scored 10 straight points during a critical 96-second stretch as the host Illini beat the Yellow Jackets in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge.

Bertrand and Brandon Paul each scored 15 points to lead Illinois (8-0), which nailed a season-high 14 3-pointers.

With the Illini trailing 58-54 with 7:17 left, Bertrand began to warm up thanks to some solid defensive play by Paul. Bertrand converted a breakaway layup off a steal from Paul and gave Illinois the lead for good on a 3-pointer on the next possession.

After another 3-pointer following a block from Paul, Bertrand ended his run of 10 unanswered points – coming off another steal from Paul – with a highlight-worthy three-point play on the other end to leave Illinois with a 64-58 advantage. D.J. Richardson and Paul scored the final 11 points of the game for the Illini as they pulled away in the final minutes.

Kammeon Holsey had 14 points to pace Georgia Tech (4-2), which fell to 4-9 all-time in the Challenge.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Illinois, which entered Wednesday with a NCAA-high 76 3-pointers, finished 14-of-28 beyond the arc – the seventh time in eight games it has hit at least 10 in a game. …. Georgia Tech G Mfon Udofia suffered a potentially serious ankle injury on Paul’s layup attempt with 3:24 remaining and did not return. … John Groce became the second Illini coach to begin his tenure with eight consecutive wins, joining Fletcher Lane (1906-07).
