Andrew Smith scored a game-high 24 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the visiting Bulldogs past the Wildcats.

Smith was 8-of-11 from the field and 7-of-9 from the foul line to help Butler (7-2) extend its winning streak to four games.

Rotnei Clarke came off the bench and added 13 points, including four 3-pointers. Kellen Dunham chipped in 11 points and Roosevelt Jones had 10 for the Bulldogs, who led 34-31 at halftime.

Northwestern (7-3) was led by Dave Sobolewski, who scored 21 points. He was 6-of-11 from the field and 7-of-8 from the foul line. Tre Demps added 15 points and Reggie Hearn came off the bench and added 13 for the Wildcats.

Butler took a 26-24 lead on Jones’ three-point play with 6:07 left in the first half and never trailed again.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Butler outrebounded Northwestern 37-30. … The Bulldogs had nine steals compared to the Wildcats’ three. … Butler shot 48 percent (24-of-50) from the field compared to Northwestern’s 32.7 percent (18-of-55).
