No. 17 Butler 79, Dayton 73: Roosevelt Jones had 16 points and seven rebounds and the visiting Bulldogs extended their winning streak to 11 after leading scorer Rotnei Clarke left the game on a stretcher in the first half.

With Clarke out, Butler (14-2, 2-0 Atlantic 10) used a balanced attack with 10 different players scoring at least two points. Andrew Smith had 13 points and Khyle Marshall added 12 for the Bulldogs, who shot 58.1 percent from the field - including 7-for-13 (53.8 percent) from 3-point range.

Vee Sanford and Dyshawn Pierre led Dayton (10-6, 0-2) with 14 points apiece, but top scorer Kevin Dillard was held two points below his average at 13. Devin Oliver grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds for the Flyers, who have lost four of their last six games.

Dayton trailed 65-60 with 5:10 left after Stanford scored 10 straight points, but Smith answered with a 3-pointer on Butler’s next possession to quiet the raucous near-sellout crowd at UD Arena. The Flyers were unable to get closer than four points in the final minutes.

Clarke exited with 8:13 left in the first half after being fouled hard by the Flyers’ Matt Derenbecker and crashed into the basketball stand. Clarke remained on the ground for nearly eight minutes, but he was able to move his arms and legs before being taken to a nearby hospital. He had a sprained neck, according to the team trainer.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The Bulldogs are off to their best start since 2008-09, when they won 19 of their first 20 games. …Dayton’s three losses at home this season have come by a combined total of eight points. …The Flyers outrebounded Butler 36-25, but they shot just 39.7 percent from the field.
