No. 13 Butler 62, Richmond 47: Andrew Smith had 15 points and seven rebounds to lead a balanced attack and host Butler extended its winning streak to 12 games despite the absence of leading scorer Rotnei Clarke.

Kellen Dunham scored 11 points and Roosevelt Jones added 10 points and 12 rebounds for the Bulldogs (15-2, 3-0 A-10), who are off to their best start since opening the 2008-09 season 19-1.

Darien Brothers paced Richmond (11-7, 1-2) with 12 points, but the team's leading scorer shot 3-for-11 from the floor and didn't notch his first field goal until there was 9:23 left.

The Bulldogs took advantage of repeated scoring droughts by the Spiders to pull away. Butler limited Richmond to one field goal in a span of nearly 10 minutes to take a 33-21 lead into halftime.

Andrew Smeathers buried a 3-pointer to give the Bulldogs their biggest lead at 46-26 with 12:40 to play. Brothers finally got into the flow and scored eight points in one minute - including a four-point play - to cut the deficit to 50-41 but the Spiders could get no closer.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Butler, which entered the game leading the Atlantic 10 in rebounding margin, overwhelmed Richmond on the glass 53-20. ... Brothers, who ranks third nationally in 3-point percentage at 51.3, was only 1-of-7 from behind the arc. ... Clarke suffered a sprained neck in a fall in Saturday's game against Richmond. He's also expected to sit out Saturday's matchup with No. 8 Gonzaga.
