No. 25 Pittsburgh 56, Seton Hall 46: Lamar Patterson tallied 12 points and 10 rebounds as the host Panthers downed the depleted Pirates and notched their sixth win in seven contests.

Freshman Steven Adams added a career-high 15 rebounds for Pittsburgh (19-5, 7-4 Big East), which shot a season-low 34.8 percent from the field in a game that lacked any sort of offensive rhythm.

Fuquan Edwin fought through a second-half ankle injury and scored a game-high 23 points for Seton Hall (13-10, 2-8), which suffered its fourth straight loss. Edwin added five steals, one short of tying his season high.

Despite a number of injuries, the Pirates showed incredible resiliency as most of the game was played within a 10-point window. Edwin hit a free throw with 9:24 remaining to give Seton Hall its final lead at 40-39.

Patterson answered with a layup on the next possession, Adams added a dunk and Cameron Wright scored the next six points as the Panthers strung together a game-ending 18-8 surge that helped Pittsburgh avoid an upset after an emotional win over Syracuse on Saturday.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Seton Hall, which has seen players miss a total of 39 games this season, took more hits to its roster Monday. Sophomore G Aaron Cosby – the team’s third-leading scorer – missed the game due to family reasons, G Brian Oliver was limited with the same ankle injury that sidelined him for five games earlier this season and Edwin rolled his right ankle with 7:38 remaining as he attempted to grab a rebound on a missed free throw. Edwin returned to the game with 4:51 left. … Pittsburgh, which entered the game as the sixth-best scoring defense in Division I, held its third conference opponent to less than 50 points. … Edwin’s basket 18 seconds after he returned to the game was the Pirates’ only field goal over a 10:34 stretch until Haralds Karlis recorded a breakaway dunk with three seconds left.
