North Carolina 76, North Carolina State 65: Reggie Bullock led the way with 22 points and 13 rebounds as the Tar Heels put together a big run late to beat the visiting Wolfpack.

Bullock and Marcus Paige each had eight points during an 18-2 burst that gave North Carolina (19-8, 9-5 ACC) a 70-57 lead with 3:37 left. Paige and James Michael McAdoo each scored 14 and P.J. Hairston added 12 for the Tar Heels, who have won six of their last eight to move into third place in the league.

Scott Wood registered 19 points, including five 3-pointers, and Richard Howell added 13 points and 17 rebounds for North Carolina State (19-8, 8-6). Lorenzo Brown chipped in with 12 points and 12 assists for the Wolfpack, who dropped to 2-5 on the road in ACC play.

McAdoo and Bullock had 10 points apiece, including dunks during a key 7-0 run in the see-saw first half that helped the Tar Heels build a 34-28 lead at the break. North Carolina State owned a big advantage on the boards in the opening 20 minutes, led by Howell’s 13, but turned the ball over 12 times.

North Carolina pushed its lead to 10 early in the second half before Wood scored 11 during a 19-5 run that gave the Wolfpack a four-point lead with 11:47 to go. Trailing 55-52, Bullock made two free throws and Paige followed with a 3-pointer for a 57-55 lead and the Tar Heels were on their way.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The Tar Heels did not shoot a free throw until there was 9:59 remaining in the contest and finished 11-of-16. … North Carolina State’s 91-83 victory on Jan. 26 had ended a 13-game losing streak to the Tar Heels. … North Carolina coach Roy Williams is 25-2 against North Carolina State in his career as a head coach, including 5-0 when he was at Kansas.
