No. 17 Memphis 52, Northern Iowa 47: Chris Crawford had 18 points and a career-high 12 rebounds as the Tigers salvaged a hard-fought win over the Panthers in the seventh-place game at the Battle 4 Atlantis in Nassau, Bahamas.

Crawford shot 4-of-6 from 3-point range while Joe Jackson rebounded from Friday’s benching against Minnesota with 15 points for Memphis (3-2), which was held to its lowest point total since scoring 47 in a loss to UTEP on Feb. 26, 2011.

Northern Iowa (3-3) led by as many as 14 in the first half following three consecutive 3-pointers from Chip Rank and Matt Bohannon that left the Panthers with a 26-12 advantage.

The Tigers responded with 10 unanswered points to enter the break and took the lead for good at 42-41 on a layup from Crawford with 4:04 left. The basket sparked an 8-0 run as Northern Iowa was held scoreless for nearly five minutes. Crawford and Tarik Black each hit a pair of free throws to hold off the Panthers.

Deon Mitchell scored 18 points and was the only Northern Iowa player to finish in double figures.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Crawford’s previous career high was eight rebounds. … Northern Iowa had two scoring droughts of at least 4:57 in the second half. … Northern Iowa entered the Battle 4 Atlantis averaging 86.3 points, but was held to 50 or fewer in all three losses.
