No. 7 Syracuse 56, St. Francis (N.Y.) 50: Jerami Grant scored 13 points and grabbed eight rebounds as the host Orange rallied late to pull out the win in the opening round of EA Sports Maui Invitational.

DaJuan Coleman had 14 points, Trevor Cooney finished with 12 points and C.J. Fair added seven points, six rebounds and two blocks to lead Syracuse (4-0). The Orange closed the game with a 10-0 run over the final 3:09 after trailing for most of the second half.

Jalen Cannon finished with 16 points and eight rebounds, freshman Wayne Martin scored 13 points and Anthony White added 10 points for St. Francis (2-2), which was going for its first win over a top-10 team. The Terriers opened the season with a 66-62 overtime victory at defending ACC champion Miami (Fla.).

Syracuse used a 10-0 run that featured eight points by Coleman to take an early 12-5 lead and led by as many as eight points, 22-14, after a Grant layup. But the Terriers closed to within 30-26 at halftime on a layup by White.

St. Francis open the second half with a 9-2 run capped by a layup by Cannon to take a 35-32 lead with 15:26 to go. The Terriers led 50-46 with 4:10 remaining after a White free throw, but Syracuse, which forced four turnovers down the stretch, rallied to take the lead for good 52-50 on a layup by Michael Gbinije after a Grant steal with 59 seconds to go.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Syracuse, which entered the game shooting 60.2 percent from the free-throw line, finished 18-of-27 but sank four in a row in the final 26 seconds to seal the win. ... The Orange had nine steals, giving them 48 in four games. ... The win was the 924th of Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim's career, second most in NCAA Division I history.
