Miami 71, La Salle 58: Rion Brown had a team-high 17 points and Davon Reed scored eight points during a key 18-3 first-half run to spark the host Hurricanes to their fourth victory in the past six games.

Garrius Adams added 13 points for Miami (7-5), which led by 10 at the half and was never seriously threatened thereafter. Donnavan Kirk contributed nine points with nine rebounds and four blocked shots.

Tyreek Duren hit four 3-pointers and scored 18 points to lead the Explorers (6-6), and Steve Zack finished with 11 points and 11 rebounds. La Salle, which does not play again until Jan. 4, has lost two of its past three.

The Hurricanes were down by five early but took control by scoring 18 of the next 21 points. Reed’s layup five minutes into the game pushed Miami ahead to stay 13-12, and his three-point play and 3-pointer midway through the half gave the Hurricanes a 25-15 advantage.

Adams added seven points in the first half as Miami built a 34-24 lead at intermission. Duren’s 3-pointer with 2:11 to play brought La Salle within 61-54, but the Explorers could draw no closer.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Kirk has blocked a shot in every Miami game this season. … The two teams combined for just 17 turnovers. … The Explorers dropped to 0-3 on the road.
