No. 2 Syracuse 64, Miami (Fla.) 52: C.J. Fair recorded 15 points, seven rebounds and three assists as the visiting Orange survived a scare from the Hurricanes despite blowing an 18-point lead.

Freshman Tyler Ennis chipped in with 14 points and four assists while Jerami Grant had 14 points and eight boards for Syracuse (19-0, 6-0 ACC). Trevor Cooney added 11 points for the Orange, who scored 15 of the game’s last 18 points and had a 39-24 edge on the glass.

Davon Reed led the way with 16 points off the bench for Miami (10-9, 2-5), which has lost all four at home in league play. Rion Brown contributed 13 points and eight rebounds for the Hurricanes, who stayed in it by making 9-of-17 from behind the 3-point arc.

Syracuse came out red hot from the outside and went on a 16-1 run, getting 10 points from Fair to take an 18-point advantage with a little over eight minutes left in the first half. Miami battled back, making 5-of-9 from 3-point range, to pull within 31-26 at intermission.

The Orange led by eight early in the second half but after Reed’s pass went in the basket for a 3-pointer and he followed with a three-point play, the Hurricanes led 47-46 with 8:20 left. Ennis answered with a three-point play to start a 12-3 run and the Orange were on their way.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Syracuse tied the second-best start in team history in 1999-2000 and can match the all-time record of 20-0 on Wednesday at Wake Forest. … Miami F James Kelly, who scored six points, went down with an apparent left ankle injury with 3:39 remaining in the game and did not return. … Syracuse, which leads the series 16-5, did not have a turnover until 7:43 remained in the first half and finished with five overall. Miami also coughed the ball up only five times.
