No. 25 Michigan 80, No. 3 Michigan State 75: Derrick Walton Jr. and Nik Stauskas led the way with 19 points apiece as the Wolverines handed the rival Spartans their first Big Ten loss.

Caris LeVert collected 17 points and eight rebounds for Michigan (15-4, 7-0 Big Ten), which knocked off its third straight top-10 opponent. Stauskas went 5-of-6 from 3-point range as the Wolverines shot 57.9 percent from beyond the arc to extend their winning streak to nine.

Gary Harris scored a career-high 27 points and Keith Appling recorded 10 points and 10 assists for Michigan State (18-2, 7-1), which was without its leading rebounders Adreian Payne (foot) and Branden Dawson (hand). Matt Costello led the team with nine rebounds to go along with nine points as the Spartans had an 11-game winning streak come to an end.

LeVert knocked down a 3-pointer from the left corner to knot it at 53 with less than eight minutes left and took the lead for the first time in the second half when Jon Horford put back an offensive rebound on the next possession. Michigan State took back the lead twice more but Stauskas got free in transition and buried his fifth 3-pointer to give the Wolverines a 63-60 lead with just over three minutes left.

Appling was blocked at the other end and Michigan turned it into another transition opportunity as Derrick Walton hit the layup while drawing contact and converted the three-point play for a six-point cushion. The Wolverines went 14-of-16 from the free-throw line in the final two minutes to put it away.

GAME NOTEBOOK:
