Miami (Fla.) 71, Notre Dame 64: Rion Brown recorded a team-high 21 points and 11 rebounds as the Hurricanes secured their first home victory over an Atlantic Coast Conference opponent this season.

Garrius Adams added 14 points and Davon Reed chipped in with 12 for Miami (13-13, 4-9 ACC), which went 9-of-17 from 3-point range. By comparison, the Hurricanes went 7-of-34 in a 52-45 setback to Virginia Tech on Saturday.

Pat Connaughton scored a game-high 22 points and Demetrius Jackson added a season-best 17 in his return from a two-game absence for Notre Dame (14-13, 5-9), which fell to 1-7 on the road this season.

Brown and Adams combined to score 16 of the Hurricanes' first 18 points of the second half. Connaughton kept Notre Dame within striking distance with a pair of late 3-pointers before stealing an inbounds pass and feeding freshman Steve Vasturia, who converted from beyond the arc to trim the deficit to 63-62 with 36 seconds remaining.

Miami secured the victory from the charity stripe as Brown sandwiched four free throws around Jackson's layup before Raphael Akpejiori and Reed each sank two attempts to cap the scoring.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The Hurricanes shot 61.9 percent (13-of-21) from the field and made six of their first seven 3-point attempts to seize a 38-26 advantage at halftime. ... Hurricanes junior F James Kelly sat out the contest after being suspended indefinitely for violating an unspecified team rule. ...
