No. 23 Butler 73, Marquette 52: Kellen Dunham scored 22 points to help the host Bulldogs knock off the Golden Eagles in Big East play.

Kameron Woods added 14 points and seven rebounds for Butler (20-8, 10-5). Tyler Wideman contributed eight points and eight rebounds as the Bulldogs posted a 29-18 advantage on the boards.

Luke Fischer had 17 points on 7-of-8 shooting and blocked three shots for Marquette (11-16, 3-12), which has lost four straight games and 10 of its last 11. Leading scorer Matt Carlino had 10 points off the bench in his return after being sidelined four games due to a concussion.

The Golden Eagles cut a seven-point halftime deficit down to three early in the second half before Woods capped a 10-2 burst with a layup to give Butler a 48-37 lead with 13:03 remaining. Kelan Martin hit a 3-pointer and followed with a dunk to conclude a 9-0 surge to boost the lead to 17 with 8:45 left and Dunham scored five straight during another 9-0 burst to make it 68-46 with 3:22 to play.

Marquette shot 59.1 percent from the field in the first half but trailed 37-30 at the break. Butler was 10-of-14 from the free-throw line – the Golden Eagles were just 1-of-3 – and Dunham scored 11 first-half points.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Marquette entered the contest averaging eight steals but had just three against the Bulldogs. … Dunham made four 3-pointers as Butler was 6-of-10 from behind the arc. … Golden Eagles F Juan Anderson (ankle) returned after a one-game absence but didn’t score.
