Oscar Tshiebwe scored 16 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead No. 13 West Virginia to a 76-61 win over Iowa State on Wednesday in Big 12 Conference play at Morgantown, W.Va.

West Virginia dominated the game throughout, using its defense, its superior depth and lights-out shooting to lead by as many as 24 points late in the second half.

Chase Harler added 14 points for West Virginia (18-4, 6-3 Big 12) while Derek Culver and Emmitt Matthews Jr. scored 12 apiece and Jermaine Haley contributed 11. The Mountaineers have won two straight and four of their past five games.

West Virginia outshot Iowa State 50 percent to 39.7 percent from the floor, with much of the damage done in the first half. West Virginia also outrebounded the Cyclones 46-28, pulling down 18 of its boards on the offensive glass, leading to 19 second-chance points.

Rasir Bolton led Iowa State (9-13, 2-7) with 18 points. Tyrese Haliburton added 12 for the Cyclones, who took their fourth straight loss and ninth in the past 11 games. Iowa State fell to 0-7 on the road.

The Mountaineers led by as many at 19 points and ruled the first half, shooting 59 percent on the way to a 41-27 lead at intermission. Matthews led the way with 12 points over the first 20 minutes, with Tshiebwe adding 10 on 4-of-5 shooting from the floor.

As per the norm, West Virginia ruled the backboards and the paint, outrebounding the Cyclones 20-14 in the half and scoring 18 points in the paint to just eight for the visitors.

Bolton paced Iowa State with 10 first-half points. The Cyclones, who never led, shot just 36 percent in the half and committed nine turnovers before halftime.

West Virginia continued its hot hand early in the second half, making 7 of its first 12 shots to expand its lead to 62-40 with 12 minutes to play.
